What a dollar AI subscription costs on a euro card

No Blomo card is issued in dollars, so a USD-billed AI plan is converted on every renewal. The full cost of a year, card by card, with the arithmetic shown.

A year of a $20-a-month AI plan paid with a Blomo card costs the $240 the service charges, plus between $3.60 and $6.00 of Blomo fees depending on which card you hold — that is 1.5% to 2.5% on top — plus twelve currency conversions that Blomo does not charge for and does not control. The conversions are the part worth understanding, because no Blomo card is issued in dollars. The range is EUR, PLN, GBP and IDR (availability), so a service that bills in dollars is converted at the Visa or Mastercard rate every single time it renews. Blomo adds no mark-up to that rate and takes no conversion fee (section 11 of the terms), but “no fee” is not “no movement”: the amount that leaves your balance is different each month, and if the plan is priced annually you can remove eleven of those twelve conversions for free.

This page is the arithmetic. It does not tell you to buy a card, and one of its conclusions is that the largest saving available on an AI subscription has nothing to do with how you pay for it.

The three things that are actually charged

Only two of them are Blomo’s.

1. The top-up fee: 1%, added on top of the amount you ask to have credited. You name the sum you want on the balance and send that sum plus the fee — ask for 100 USDT and transfer 101 (fees). The top-up screen shows the exact figure. Full working in how much to send so 500 USDT lands.

2. The transaction fee: 0.5% to 1.5%, depending on the card. Charged on the payment itself, once per renewal.

Card Currency Transaction fee
Netherlands · Visa EUR 0.5%
Spain · Visa EUR 1%
Poland · Mastercard PLN 1%
United Kingdom · Visa GBP 1.5%
Indonesia · Mastercard IDR 1%
Estonia · Visa EUR 1%

From the fees page, current on 14 September 2026.

3. The conversion — which is not a fee. A purchase in the card’s own currency is not converted at all. Anything else, dollars included, is recalculated at the rate of the card network, Visa or Mastercard, fixed at the moment of the transaction. Blomo does not convert at a rate of its own and takes no mark-up on conversion, which is why there is no conversion line in the fee table (section 11). What it costs you is not a percentage Blomo could publish; it is whatever the rate did between one renewal and the next.

There is no fourth thing. Blomo does not add card fees that are not in the fee table (section 14), and a recurring charge carries the same transaction fee as any other payment.

A year of a $20 plan, card by card

Take a plan quoted at $20 a month. Claude’s own pricing page lists Pro at “$20 if billed monthly” (Claude pricing, read 14 September 2026) and it is a common enough figure across this market to use as the worked example.

Twelve renewals is $240 of merchant charges. The arithmetic below treats one USDT as one dollar, which is what the peg is for and not a promise it always holds.

Card Transaction fee on $240 Top-up fee on $240 Blomo total for the year As a share of the plan
Netherlands $1.20 $2.40 $3.60 1.5%
Spain $2.40 $2.40 $4.80 2.0%
Poland $2.40 $2.40 $4.80 2.0%
United Kingdom $3.60 $2.40 $6.00 2.5%
Indonesia $2.40 $2.40 $4.80 2.0%
Estonia $2.40 $2.40 $4.80 2.0%

Rates from the fees page; everything else is multiplication. Twelve conversions at the network rate sit on top of every row, identically, and are not in these figures because Blomo cannot put a number on them.

So the spread across the whole range is $2.40 a year. If you are choosing a card for an AI subscription and nothing else, the transaction fee is not the interesting variable — a card that costs $6.00 a year to run instead of $3.60 is not the decision. What is interesting is on the next two lines.

The saving that dwarfs all of this

Annual billing. Claude’s pricing page lists the same Pro plan at “$17 Per month with annual subscription discount ($200 billed up front)” (Claude pricing, read 14 September 2026) — $40 less than twelve monthly charges, which is between six and eleven times the entire Blomo cost of the year.

It also does something specific to a card like this: it collapses twelve conversions into one. Instead of twelve separate recalculations at twelve different rates, there is a single charge at a single rate, and the total is fixed the day you pay it.

Monthly billing Annual billing
Charged by the service $240 $200
Blomo fees (1% card) $4.80 $4.00
Conversions per year 12 1
Total $244.80 $204.00

Merchant prices from Claude pricing read 14 September 2026; Blomo fees from the fees page.

This is an odd thing for a card company to lead with, because it is the recommendation that generates the least card activity. It is also the true answer to “how do I make this cheaper”, and pages that skip it are not answering the question you asked.

The catch is real and worth naming: an annual charge is one large payment, and it has to be sitting on the balance on the day it lands. Which brings up the number that catches most people out.

The minimum top-up does not fit a monthly subscription

The minimum top-up is 50 USDT. Smaller deposits are not credited (fees).

A $20 monthly plan therefore cannot be funded monthly. The smallest load you can make covers two and a half renewals, and in practice you load three or six months at a time and let it draw down. That is not a disaster, but it changes what you are actually doing: you are pre-funding a subscription, not paying it as it falls due, and the money sits on a balance until the merchant takes it.

Two consequences follow.

  • A balance kept at exactly the subscription price will fail a renewal, because the transaction fee is added on top and the converted amount moves. Keep headroom, not the exact figure.
  • Getting an over-funded balance back out costs 3%, taken out of the amount together with the network fee, with no minimum (how do you get your money back out). Loading a year of subscriptions and then changing your mind is not free.

There is also an entry threshold before any of this starts: the cheapest card in the range needs 100 USDT on the balance to be ordered, which is five months of a $20 plan (fees).

When the currency question actually has a good answer

Everything above assumes the service bills you in dollars. Not all of them do, and it is worth checking your own invoice rather than a public price page, because many services localise.

  • If your invoice is in euros, three Blomo cards are issued in EUR — Netherlands, Spain and Estonia — and a purchase in the card’s own currency is not converted at all.
  • If it is in pounds or zloty, there is one card in each.
  • If it is in dollars, there is no matching card and there is no trick that creates one. Every renewal converts, and the honest advice is to reduce the number of renewals rather than to hunt for a card that avoids them.

Which Blomo card should you choose works the same question from the other end, across all your spending rather than one subscription.

What Blomo will not tell you about your AI service

Whether it will accept the card. Blomo makes no promise that any particular service takes a Blomo card, and it has no way to check on your behalf. The decision belongs to the merchant, it is made from the card number before your balance is consulted, and section 10 of the terms says a merchant may decline for reasons of its own and that some services do not accept prepaid cards at all. What a BIN is and why a shop declines your card explains the mechanism. The only test is to attach the card.

What its retry and cancellation rules are. If a renewal fails because the balance was short, when the service tries again and how many failures end the subscription is that service’s rule. Blomo neither sets it nor sees it.

Exactly how a dollar charge becomes a USDT debit. The terms describe the card-level rule and state that Blomo adds no mark-up and has no rate of its own. They do not break the leg between the card currency and the USDT balance into published steps. If a large annual charge depends on that detail, ask support and get it in writing rather than taking it from an article.

Questions people actually ask

How much does Blomo add to a $20 AI subscription?

The transaction fee on the payment — 0.5% to 1.5% depending on the card, so 10 to 30 cents — plus the 1% top-up fee on the money you loaded to pay it, so 20 cents. Between 30 and 50 cents a month, or $3.60 to $6.00 across a year of twelve renewals. Rates from the fees page.

Is there a conversion fee for paying a dollar price with a euro card?

Not from Blomo. Section 11 of the terms says Blomo does not convert at a rate of its own and takes no mark-up on conversion, which is why there is no conversion line in the fee table. The recalculation happens at the Visa or Mastercard rate for the moment of the transaction, and the amount debited moves with that rate.

Is there a Blomo card in dollars?

No. Cards are issued in EUR, PLN, GBP and IDR (availability). A dollar-billed service is converted on every renewal whichever card you hold.

What is the cheapest way to run an AI subscription on a Blomo card?

Pay annually if the service offers it. On the worked example that is $40 saved against twelve monthly charges — more than six times the whole year of Blomo fees — and it replaces twelve conversions with one. The card you choose changes the answer by $2.40 a year across the entire range.

Can I top up just enough for one month?

No. The minimum top-up is 50 USDT and smaller deposits are not credited, so the smallest load covers about two and a half renewals of a $20 plan. Keep headroom above the exact price, because the transaction fee is added on top and the converted amount is not the same every month.

Will ChatGPT, Claude or any other service accept the card?

Blomo does not promise it and cannot check it for you. Acceptance is the merchant’s decision, taken from the card number. Attach the card and find out.
